Movie Review: A Haunted House (2013)

A Haunted House
Automatik Entertainment, Baby Way Productions, Cutting Edge Group, Endgame Entertainment, IM Global, USA, 2013.
A Haunted House title
First I have to say that I have a strong dislike against Marlon Wayans. Not only he ruined "Dungeons & Dragons" he has also appeared in number of terrible spoof films. The films with him I liked were "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood", "Requiem for a Dream", "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" (small role) and "Ladykillers" and most of those despite him rather than because of him. So as this film is not only starring him but also it is written by him I already know that I will hate this film.

Malcolm Johnson (Marlon Wayans) gets a new video camera. His girlfriend Kisha (Essence Atkins) moves into his house. Soon we get a joke about Malcolm's dog getting run over. Always hilarious, not. Moving together with girlfriend creates some strain to their relationship. Love life suffers and Kisha shows her disgusting habits.

Security guys Dan (David Koechner) and Bob (Dave Sheridan) install security cameras into the house. The cameras reveal some disturbing things about housekeeper Rosa (Marlene Forte). Soon items start to move so there is ghost in the house. Gay Psychic Chip (Nick Swardson) comes to investigate the house. He immediately becomes interested in Malcolm. Kisha appears to be possessed so exorcist Father Williams (Cedric the Entertainer) is needed.

Basically this is parody of "Paranormal Activity" with fart, toilet and sex jokes. It looks cheaply made and filmed in someone's house. If there is something positive it is that it actually has some kind of (bad) horror/comedy plot instead of trying to include as many scenes copied from other movies as possible in the style of Friedberg&Seltzer. It is a mystery how they managed to spend $2.5 million. (The film poster lies: Marlon Wayans does not use chainsaw in the movie). If you think Marlon Wayans simulating sex with stuffed animals is the culmination of comedy then this is the right movie for you.
Let's make this part of The 2016 Movie Watching Challenge (#47. Comedy that stars someone you hate. Marlon Wayans that is, and the movie did not change the opinion)
