In 1935 the Darrell family is getting sick because of the British weather, so they decide to travel to Korfu. Gerald (Eugene Simon) is an animal loving boy. Lawrence (Matthew Goode), Leslie (Russell Tovey) and Margaret (Tamzin Merchant) are his siblings and their mother Louisa (Imelda Staunton).

Spiro is a jovial Greek |
Their house in Korfu does not have bathrooms. They meet an English speaking Grecian man named Spiro (Omid Djalili), who suggests that they could move to his house. Gerald studies insects and befriends local people. Lawrence tries to be an decadent writer. Leslie likes sailing and shooting things. Margaret takes sun baths and gets the attention of local boys. Gerald gets an private teacher because he can not write well. The teacher George must find a way to Gerard interested in mathematics. Rose-beetle man brings animals to Gerard. Many animals. Gerard also meets an other natural scientist Theo (Chris Langham).

Lawrence invites his friends to visit so the family must move into bigger house. Lawrence's friends are bohemian artists. Also Europe is nearing World War II so eventually they must return to England.

This is a funny period film with eccentric Durrell family. The excellent cast includes also British comedians Miranda Hart and Omid Djajili.

Didn't know this movie existed. Miranda Hart fan, so I'll have to check it out. :)
